Christian Lundgaard won the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America for Arrow McLaren after recovering from first-lap contact that dropped him to the rear of the 25-car field. The Dane used strategy, pace and a late-race caution to complete a remarkable last-to-first drive in the No. 7 Chevrolet.
The result, confirmed in IndyCar’s race report from Road America, gives Lundgaard his second victory of the 2026 season, both of them on road courses, and adds another twist to a championship picture still led by Alex Palou.
Road America win changes IndyCar chase
Lundgaard’s afternoon looked compromised almost immediately when opening-lap contact forced him into recovery mode. Arrow McLaren kept him in play through the strategy cycle, before the late caution created the decisive reset at the front.
The race finished under caution after Graham Rahal spun into the gravel at Canada Corner following contact with Will Power while fighting for third on the final restart. That flashpoint protected Lundgaard’s lead and left the rest of the field to count the cost of missed opportunities.
For Arrow McLaren, the significance is obvious. Lundgaard has now shown he can convert pace into wins on permanent road courses, and Road America gives the team a result with real momentum as IndyCar moves deeper into the second half of the campaign.
