Larson NASCAR 26 reveal gives San Diego weekend first spark

Kyle Larson has given NASCAR’s San Diego weekend its first major off-track spark after being confirmed as the cover driver for NASCAR 26 during a live reveal aboard the USS Midway.

NASCAR and iRacing Studios announced the reveal during Thursday evening’s media kickoff in San Diego, with the game scheduled to launch in September 2026. The Qualcomm Circuit at Naval Base Coronado, which hosts NASCAR’s race weekend across the three national series, will also feature in the title.

The timing gives the launch more weight than a standard cover announcement. NASCAR has spent the week building toward a first competitive visit to Coronado, and the game reveal tied Larson, one of the Cup Series’ most recognisable names, directly to the same temporary course that will define the weekend.

It also fits the wider feel of the event. ReadMotorsport has already looked at how San Diego’s bumps turn the street-race debut into a real test, while the broader Coronado weekend has become an execution challenge for NASCAR before the Cup field has even taken the green flag.

According to NASCAR’s own track-walk dispatch, drivers and teams used Thursday to take their first proper look at the 3.4-mile layout before Friday’s opening laps. Against that backdrop, Larson’s reveal gives the weekend an extra commercial and cultural marker before the competitive order is finally exposed on track.

With Jeremy Clements’ San Diego record run and the wider support-card action already adding texture to the weekend, Larson’s cover slot underlines how much NASCAR has loaded into its first Coronado visit. The next question is whether the racing can match the build-up.
