While the Australian Grand Prix served up a series of chaotic and thrilling moments, one performance that stood out amid all the drama was that of new rookie Arvid Lindblad.

Speaking to Sky Sports post-race, he reflected on his Formula 1 debut, the pinch-me moments he experienced lap by lap during the Australian Grand Prix, and the mindset he carries when competing against established drivers on the grid.

Lindblad crossed the finish line in 8th place, ahead of his Racing Bulls teammate Liam Lawson, who came 13th. This was a defining moment for Lindblad, who ended up scoring four points in his F1 debut.

Lindblad won’t ease up on F1 heroes

In conversation with Sky Sports, the young Briton opened up about racing against more experienced drivers. He said he has immense respect for them and acknowledges the amazing job they have done in the sport. However, he made it clear that it should not be mistaken for a willingness to give up positions. “I am here to fight, and when I am in the car, I am a ruthless competitor,” he added.

Lindblad’s fierce mindset and high-running competitive spirit were, in fact, evident in every session of the Australian Grand Prix, where he delivered promising results. During the practice sessions, the rookie appeared in the top ten twice. There was only a slight dip in the third session, where he finished 11th.

Heading into qualifying, he managed to remain consistently within the top ten across all three sessions. After which, he secured ninth place on the grid, just behind his teammate Lawson. Given that it was only his debut, the positions he achieved in the sessions leading up to the Grand Prix, along with his finishing position, are remarkable.

As stated by him, to be a part of F1 was his dream since he was 5-years-old. He’s proud to be living it currently. And more so, he’s determined to seize every opportunity on track to compete, which he believes was quite evident in lap 1 itself.

A debut to remember

Although the young Briton started from 8th, he was soon seen competing with the likes of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton and the current reigning champion Lando Norris during the earlier laps. He went wheel-to-wheel against them both, at one point also climbing up to third position.

As the race progressed, the car’s pace and the changing places of other drivers saw him finish just a place higher than where he started (8th). There was also a moment where the rookie gave four-time world champion Max Verstappen a hard time overtaking.

He did his best to defend his position for a long time before Verstappen passed him. In conversation with Sky Sports, he described competing against the experienced drivers as “pretty cool” and “very special.” He revealed that he had a lot of fun out there.

While this was just the start of the season, it remains to be seen what more surprising moments Lindblad will bring to the upcoming tracks.
