Formula 2 frontrunner Alexander Albon will join Sebastien Buemi at Nissan e.dams in Formula E for the 2018/19 season.

The upcoming season five will be Nissan’s first in the series, providing manufacturer backing to the e.dams outfit which has claimed three of FE’s first four teams’ championship titles while being backed by Renault.

Currently driving for DAMS and sitting third in the F2 standings, Albon’s switch to FE is as a replacement for Nicolas Prost who leaves the e.dams team after four seasons.

“The level of competition in [FE] is intense, and I’m looking forward to testing myself against some of the best drivers in the world,” Albon said.

“Electric street racing will be a new challenge for me, but working with Sebastien as my teammate will be a huge help, as he has set the benchmark for performance in the series.”

Albon has previously completed an FE test with e.dams while the team was a Renault works squad.

He will partner season two FE champion Buemi, who was confirmed as being retained by e.dams as part of the announcement. He has driven for the team in all four FE seasons.

During this period, former Formula 1 driver Buemi secured 12 race victories – the most of any driver in the history of the series.

Despite the change in manufacturer from Renault to Nissan, e.dams team principal Jean-Paul Driot continues in his role.

Speaking about the team’s new driver line-up, Driot said; “Sebastien has been an important part of the e.dams team since our first Formula E race four years ago in China.

“We know Alex well from his performances with DAMS in Formula 2, and we’re excited to bring his talent into the Formula E championship.”
