Grosjean disqualified from Italian GP for illegal floor

Romain Grosjean has been disqualified from sixth-place in the Italian Grand Prix after the stewards have deemed the floor on his Haas car to have been illegal.

Immediately after the race at Monza, Renault lodged an appeal against Haas on the grounds that it believed the car did not comply with the technical regulations laid out regarding the floor.

The FIA’s technical delegate was asked to investigate the issue and provided the verdict; “The reference plane of car number 08 is found not to be in compliance with Article 3.7.1 d) and the clarifications given in TD/033-18 published on 25 July 2018.

“The surface formed by all parts lying on the reference plane must have a 50mm radius (+/-2mm) on each front corner when viewed from directly beneath the car, this being applied after the surface has been defined.” It was this detail that Haas has been deemed to have infringed.

This has resulted in Grosjean’s exclusion from the race result. He, therefore, loses the eight points scored at Monza.

Haas had moved level on points with Renault and fourth in the championship after Renault had scored just two points in Monza courtesy of Carlos Sainz Jr’s ninth-place finish.

As a result of the exclusion, Haas slips back to fifth place and 10 points adrift of Renault.

Haas retains the right to appeal the decision but has not yet commented on the stewards’ verdict.

The disqualification also means that Sergey Sirotkin has scored his first point in Formula 1, after being promoted to 10th place. All 20 drivers have now scored at least one point this season.

With Lance Stroll now classified ninth, Monza has also marked Williams’s first double points scoring finish of the season.
