De Vries wins F2 feature race from pole at Spa

Prema’s Nyck de Vries won the Formula 2 feature race at Spa-Francorchamps from pole position ahead of Carlin’s Sergio Sette Camara.

The McLaren Formula 1 junior led from the start of the race, creating a 7.6s gap to Sette Camara in second place before the Brazilian made his pit stop on lap 8 of 25.

De Vries stayed out two laps longer than Sette Camara and three laps longer than George Russell and Lando Norris, who were third and fourth respectively before entering the pits at the end of lap 7.

The gap between the top two shrunk after the pitstops with De Vries losing time in traffic before the safety car came out on lap 15 after Nirei Fukuzumi had to pull his Arden car off to the side due to a fire.

De Vries was able to control the final seven laps when the grid began racing again, crossing the finish line 3.153s ahead of Sette Camara.

Russell took the final podium position after coming under pressure on lap 19 from Norris on the Kemmel Straight, with the ART driver extending his championship lead over Carlin’s Norris.

Alexander Albon took home fifth position having started the race one spot further back on the grid.

Russian Time’s Artem Markelov was the frontrunner on the alternate strategy having started the race on the medium compound.

The race was neutralised under the safety just after him and Nicolas Latifi pitted for soft tyres, restarting the race in eighth and ninth.

Markelov dispatched Louis Deletraz on lap 20 for sixth place and was able to grab fifth place from Campos driver Luca Ghiotto at the chequered flag, with the two drivers being separated by 0.030s.

Latifi ended his race in eighth place ahead of Arden driver Maximilian Gunther.

Ghiotto’s Campos team-mate Roy Nissany recorded his first points finish in F2 with a 10th place finish having started on the same tyre compound as Markelov and Latifi.
