Andrea Dovizioso topped the timesheets at Silverstone amid some testing conditions for the riders

The heavens threatened to open as they had done for the Moto3 riders, but the track stayed dry for the MotoGP sessions.

Dovizioso would take the top spot in FP2, after a third placed finish in the morning session. The Italian is carrying on his form shown here last season, where he captured his first win on British soil since his debut win at Donington Park in 2009.

Cal Crutchlow was second on home soil, with Maverick Vinales in third. Marc Marquez was fourth, recovering from a mistake in FP1 where the Spaniard failed to dramatically save a crash this time.

Jorge Lorenzo was sixth whislt fellow Ducati rider Jack Miller was sixth. Johann Zarco was seventh, whilst Valentino Rossi was eighth.

Andrea Iannone was ninth whilst Alvaro Bautista crossed the line in tenth. Takaaki Nakagami was eleventh whilst Danilo Petrucci was twelfth.

The MotoGP riders will return tomorrow for FP3 and Qualifying for the British GP.
