Filippi returns to NIO ahead of Berlin ePrix

Luca Filippi will return to Formula E with NIO for the Berlin round, after having been replaced by the team for the previous race in Paris.

Filippi made his debut in the series at the start of the 2017/18 season. Racing alongside Oliver Turvey at NIO, he scored points on his debut in Hong Kong, finishing 10th.

This point scored in Hong Kong remains Filippi’s only points scoring finish in FE. He was replaced by the team’s reserve driver Ma Qing Hua for the Paris ePrix.

However, the team has since confirmed that this decision was taken to provide Ma with race weekend experience as part of his reserve driver deal.

Paris was NIO’s last opportunity to fulfil this commitment as FE rules do not permit a driver change within the final three rounds of the season.

Filippi’s point scored in Hong Kong means that he sits 20th in the drivers’ standings. Ma failed to score in his Paris appearance, finishing 17th after suffering startline issues.

NIO sits eighth in the teams’ standings on 35 points, with Turvey having scored 34.
