Mercedes Formula 1 reserve driver George Russell topped the timesheet on the final day of Formula 2 testing at Paul Ricard, with ART Grand Prix team-mate Jack Aitken in second.
Russell’s benchmark of 1m42.396s was set during the morning session, with the majority of the day’s fastest times coming before race simulation work prior to lunch.
Aitken, who eventually finished 0.195 seconds adrift of his team-mate, had led the timesheet after the first hour, before exchanging places with Russell.
As well as topping the times, Russell completed 107 laps across the course of the day – the most mileage recorded by a single driver on any day during the week.
Prema’s Nyck de Vries finished the day third, while Alexander Albon was one of only a handful of drivers to improve their personal bests in the afternoon. He finished fourth, with a 1m42.923 that was the fastest time set during the afternoon session.
Albon’s best was posted with just ten minutes of the session remaining. He displaced Trident’s Arjun Maini from the top of the afternoon timesheet. Maini finished the day fifth on the overall timesheet.
Louis Deletraz was sixth for Charouz, while team-mate Antonio Fuoco’s morning was compromised after he stopped on-track to cause the second of six red flag periods across the day.
Occupying seventh and eighth on the timesheet were Carlin pair Sergio Sette Camara and Lando Norris – this the first day in which Camara has beaten his team-mate and reigning European Formula 3 champion on the timesheet.
With Oliver Rowland having replaced the ill Nicholas Latifi at DAMS during the opening two days of testing, Macau GP winner Daniel Ticktum took over duties on Thursday. He finished the day ninth.
Maximillian Gunther rounded out the top ten for Arden. He caused a red flag, stopping on track just after the lunch break before posting his best lap of the day.
