Norris sets fastest time on second day of F2 test

Carlin’s Lando Norris set the fastest lap of the second day of the Formula 2 test at Circuit Paul Ricard, with team-mate Sergio Sette Camara in second.

While ART’s Jack Aitken was the first driver to dip below 1m33s in the first 20 minutes of the session, by lunch Norris was back at the top with a 1m42.226s lap. Carlin team-mate Sette Camara was 0.15s behind with his fastest lap but still second fastest overall for the day. Both Norris and Sette Camara set their laps in the morning.

Alexander Albon took the fastest time in the afternoon on his last lap of the day, with Prema’s Nyck De Vries and Charouz’s Louis Deletraz having the top two fastest laps during the afternoon for most of the final hour. Albon’s 1m42.406s lap at the end was third fastest overall.

Norris and Sette Camara were near the bottom of the timesheets during most of the afternoon for best times, but moved up to ninth and tenth in the final 30 minutes. Aitken was fourth fastest overall on day two.

The red flag only came out twice during the day, both times during the morning session. Both Roberto Merhi and George Russell had moments of stopping on track.

Louis Deletraz was second fastest in the afternoon and fourth fastest overall, his fastest lap in the morning being just over 0.1s quicker compared to during the afternoon.

Arjun Maini for Trident set a lap time of 1m42.700s in the morning having run 48 laps, the most of all 20 runners. The time was one-thousandth of a second quicker than De Vries’ fastest lap during the afternoon.

2017 championship runner-up Artem Markelov’s fastest lap was over a second slower than Norris, with his Russian Time team-mate Tadasuke Makino managing 1m44.380s in the afternoon after only running eight laps during the morning.
