Boschung not finished with F2 despite Campos split

Ralph Boschung, who recently split with Campos Racing ahead of the final Formula 2 round of the season, says he’s likely to compete in the series in the future.

Boschung earned promotion to F2 this season after two years racing in GP3.

An eighth place in Baku and a subsequent reverse grid pole position were one of the few rewards for Boschung in what has been a frustrating campaign riddled with mechanical woes and misfortune.

The 20-year-old mutually agreed to end his time with Campos but says his time in F2 is far from over.

“I will be in Abu Dhabi for sure. I have an option to do the race but I’m not sure if I will take it,” Boschung told ReadMotorsport.

“But I will definitely do some post-season testing, it’s one of the priorities for next year for sure.

“I have some decent news that should be published next week. It should be a big opportunity for my career, which still should be this year.

“I’m really looking forward to it.”

A brand new chassis and engine package will be used in F2 for the first time since 2011, as the series moves to its third generation car in 2018, which includes the controversial ‘halo’ safety device.

“I was at the car reveal at Monza, it’s a nice car, it looks like the bigger sister of the GP3 car, especially the front end,” he added.

“The halo is not very appealing, it does not look right on a race car, especially on an open-wheel car.

“The rear end looks massive, looks really nice. A bit F1-style, low rear wing and it just looks larger.

“All in all, without the halo, it would be a very nice car and with the halo, it’s a nice car.”
