Palou replaces Visoiu at Campos for rest of F2 season

GP3 race winner Alex Palou will make his Formula 2 debut at this weekend’s standalone Jerez round, replacing Robert Visoiu at Campos Racing.

Palou, who has won races in both Japanese F3 and Formula V8 3.5 in 2017, will race with the team that he spent his two seasons in GP3 with.

The 20-year-old had a multitude of reliability issues in his maiden GP3 season but still scooped up a win in the season finale in Abu Dhabi. His second season was less successful and despite testing F2 machinery, he moved to Japan to race in Japanese Formula 3.

He finished third in the drivers’ championship whilst also racing in V8 3.5 with Teo Martin where he has earned three podiums in six races including a win on his debut weekend.

Palou replaces Visoiu, who made his return to the series back at Monaco and has since scored just one point while team-mate Ralph Boschung has picked up 11.

Palou will be the fifth driver to race for the Spanish team this year. Campos sits ninth in the teams’ championship, just five points above Trident.

Meanwhile, Rapax, who is fifth in the standings, will welcome series veteran Rene Binder to the team to replace the outgoing Roberto Merhi. This will be the seventh team Binder has raced for in his six-year association with the series.
