Andretti retains da Costa for upcoming FE season
MS&AD Andretti has announced that Antonio Felix da Costa will continue to drive for the team ahead of the 2017/18 Formula E season.
Da Costa joined Andretti before the start of the last FE season after competing for two years in the series with Team Aguri.
The Portuguese driver endured a difficult FE campaign last season with his only points coming from a fifth place finish in Hong Kong. He believes that the future is brighter for him and the team however.
“I’m very happy to be back with the MS&AD Andretti Team for Season Four,” da Costa said. “We have had good testing days and I believe we have made some much-needed steps forward.
“Besides that, I believe with another small push from BMW and our partners, I believe we have the strength to fight for good results.”
BMW previously announced earlier this year that it would be entering FE in 2018/19, partnering with Andretti to supply them with a new powertrain.
The second seat at Andretti is still up for the grabs, with the team giving testing duties this week in Valencia to BMW Works drivers Alexander Sims and Tom Blomqvist.
“Antonio has been in Formula E since the very start which makes him one of the most experienced drivers in the field and a huge asset to our team,” Andretti’s co-team principal Roger Griffiths stated.
“Alexander (Sims) had an important role as reserve and test driver in Season Three and is excited for a chance to show what he can do in Valencia.
“All three drivers are proven race winners in either Formula E or other race series and that is incredibly valuable.”
