Lynn to partner Bird at DS Virgin for 2017/18 Formula E season
DS Virgin Racing has announced Alex Lynn will partner series veteran Sam Bird for the 2017/18 Formula E season.
Lynn made his Formula E debut with the British outfit in Berlin last June, deputising for Jose Maria Lopez. He took pole position in his very first qualifying session but retired from both races.
The British driver will replace Lopez full-time for Formula E’s fourth season which is set to begin in December.
“Having worked very closely with them since January, it has been a genuine pleasure to learn from such a fantastic group of high-quality engineers and to integrate myself into their set-up,” Lynn said.
“I would specifically like to thank [team principal] Alex Tai for not only giving me the chance to make my series debut in New York, but for subsequently promoting me to this full-time race seat.
“I intend to fully repay everyone’s faith in me on track next season.”
Bird will continue with Virgin for a fourth season in a row. The 30-year-old has won five races with the team with a best finish of fourth in the drivers’ championship in both season two and three.
Lopez’s future is unclear with his options within Formula E seemingly limited.
