Prema Racing’s Charles Leclerc took his sixth straight Formula 2 pole position at Silverstone to match Stoffel Vandoorne’s pole record.

Leclerc beat championship rival Oliver Rowland to extend his championship to 49 points, with a 1m38.427s as his fastest time which was 0.458s quicker than Rowland.

Azerbaijan sprint race winner Norman Nato completed the top three, ahead of Jordan King and Artem Markelov.

Nicholas Latifi continued his strong form and will line-up in sixth place ahead of Sergio Canamasas, who fulfilled his potential shown in practice on his debut for Rapax.

ART Grand Prix’s practice woes continued to a certain extent in qualifying with Nobuharu Matsushita and Alexander Albon only managing eighth and 10th.

Sergio Sette Camara was ninth fastest for MP Motorsport, a second off Leclerc.

Callum Ilott was a respectable 15th on his F2 debut, nearly half a second ahead of Trident Nabil Jeffri.

Antonio Fuoco had a miserable session, which included being impeded by Sean Gelael. The Italian ended the 30 minutes at the bottom of the timesheets.
