Franco Morbidelli wins as championship rivals crash out

Franco Morbidelli took a crucial win at the Sachensring as championship rivals crashed out.

Morbidelli’s rivals Tom Luthi and Alex Marquez both crashed out, handing the Marc VDS rider a bigger lead in the championship standings.

It wasn’t easy for the Italian however, as Miguel Oliveria chased Morbidelli down in the closing laps. Oliveria wasn’t able to get past the Italian on the final lap, meaning the Portuguese rider finished in second place.

Francesco Bagnaia finished in third, handing the rookie another podium. Simone Corsi finished just behind Bagnaia, with fellow Italian Mattia Pasini coming home fifth. Jorge Navarro was sixth, with the Spaniard’s former Moto3 rival Brad Binder finishing just behind in seventh.

Sandro Cortese crossed the line eighth, with fellow German and teammate Marcel Schrotter finishing ninth. Takaaki Nakagami would complete the top ten.

The championship now heads to it’s Summer break, with the riders returning in one months time at the Brno circuit for the Czech GP.
