Bottas heads FP3 in Azerbaijan as Vettel hits trouble

Valtteri Bottas topped the third practice session for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix ahead of the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen whose team-mate Sebastian Vettel was grounded in the garage for a large portion of the session.

Bottas was quickest with a 1m42.742s, just 0.095 seconds ahead of Raikkonen and 0.416s in front of his Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

Red Bull struggled to replicate their pace from Friday as both cars finished over half a second behind their rivals.

Championship leader Vettel was held in the garage due to a hydraulic issue for the majority of the session.

Max Verstappen encountered more mechanical issues as he was forced to pull his RB13 over to the side of the track on the run to Turn 19.

Jolyon Palmer’s poor luck continued as his Renault set itself on fire in the first ten minutes of the session, the RS17 was left smouldering in the run-off area of Turn 2 as marshals tried to put out the flames creeping from the bodywork.

Williams found some pace around the Baku circuit with both cars finishing in the top 10. Felipe Massa and Lance Stroll did flirt with the boundaries of the circuit but managed to keep it out of the walls.

The Force India duo continued to show strong form with Esteban Ocon finishing sixth and Sergio Perez in tenth, both look very strong for a Q3 spot.

McLaren managed to have a clean session without any failures, however, both drivers did not manage to show much pace as Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne finished 14th and 16th respectively.
