Stephane Sarrazin will replace IndyCar bound Esteban Gutierrez for the final three rounds of the 2016/17 Formula E season at Techeetah.
Gutierrez joined the Chinese outfit from April’s Mexico ePrix onwards, scoring points in two of the three races he competed in.
When Sebastien Bourdais fractured his hip and pelvis in a horror 227mph crash at Indianapolis, Gutierrez was called up to replace him for this weekend’s round in Detroit and now looks set to see out the rest of the season with Dale Coyne Racing.
The remaining three Formula E rounds all clashed with IndyCar rounds, so Techeetah were forced to seek a replacement. After lengthy discussions, Venturi agreed to release Sarrazin to replace Gutierrez.
Sarrazin had been with Venturi since the very beginning of the sport, and even managed to score points in every single race last year.
However, the Frenchman has suffered a dire third season, with just two tenth place finishes to his name and he sits way behind his rookie team-mate Maro Engel in the championship.
Tom Dillmann, who deputised for Engel at the Paris ePrix, will replace Sarrazin at Venturi. He scored points on his Formula E debut with an eighth place finish.
“A positive solution for all those involved,” said Venturi team principal Gildo Pallanca Pastor.
“With his experience, Stephane will be embraced by Techeetah and at the same time, the season will offer Tom the chance of gathering further important experiences, with Venturi.”
