Lucas Di Grassi topped the second and final Formula E practice session ahead of qualifying in Paris.
Last minute laps saw a number of drivers jump up the timing screen. Di Grassi crossed the finish line with seconds to spare, beating Virgin Racing’s Jose Maria Lopez’s time by just two-tenths of a second.
Sebastien Buemi also left it late to set his fastest time. With 10 minutes on the clock, the Renault e.dams driver was running in third, only to be knocked down by improvements from Jean-Eric Vergne and Lopez.
The championship leader improved again in the closing moments to take P3, ahead of Di Grassi’s team-mate Daniel Abt.
Sam Bird was fifth fastest, followed by Felix Rosenqvist. The Mahindra Racing driver had been leading 10 minutes before the chequered flag, but a flurry of improvements knocked him down the order.
Nico Prost, Oliver Turvey, Vergne and Robin Frijns completed the top 10.
A number of drivers ran wide at Turn 1, including Jaguar’s Adam Carroll.
Mike Conway, stepping in for Maro Engel, also ran into trouble, spinning on the straight. The Faraday Future Dragon Racing driver recovered, but could only manage the 16th fastest time.
