Prost: “I can fight with Seb and Lucas”
Nico Prost is confident he can fight at the front, if he can turn his luck around.
The Renault e.dams driver is currently 126 points behind team mate Sebastien Buemi and 41 points behind Audi Sport ABT’s Lucas Di Grassi. But Prost believes he is closer to Buemi than ever during the race.
“In the races, I think the difference has never been so close,” he told Read Motorsport. “I think I have really good pace.”
Prost is yet to finish on the podium this season. The Frenchman has so far taken a trio of fourth places, a fifth, and a ninth this season.
The relatively poor results have followed disappointing qualifying performances from Prost. The highest he has started on the grid was sixth in Buenos Aires. It’s these qualifying efforts that Prost believes have been holding him back.
“A bit of luck in qualifying because the groups were not very good for me, and last weekend I made a bit of a mistake in quali. But I’m very confident, to be honest.
“If I put everything together I can fight with Seb and Lucas and the championship will be good.”
Putting everything together is easier said than done, but he currently has seven races left to try to close the gap to the leaders. If he can find the winning formula in front of the home crowd this weekend, and keep it up, he could join Di Grassi and Buemi in the title fight.
