Matsushita leads first day of second Formula 2 test

Nobuharu Matsushita topped the timesheets on the opening day of the second test for the 2017 FIA Formula 2 season, held at the Bahrain International Circuit.

The ART Grand Prix driver, who also topped the first day of the opening test in Barcelona, lapped the Bahraini circuit in 1m41.165s, beating the Prema of Charles Leclerc, who was fastest in the morning, by almost three-tenths of a second.

Jordan King, driving for MP Motorsport, took the third fastest time of the day ahead of Luca Ghiotto and Norman Nato.

Racing Engineering’s Louis Deletraz set the second fastest time in the afternoon which was enough to give him sixth overall, ahead of series veterans Oliver Rowland and Johnny Cecotto Jr, who were separated by 0.002s.

Nicholas Latifi and Alexander Albon, driving for DAMS and ART Grand Prix respectively, rounded out the top ten.

Series rookies Nyck de Vries and Antonio Fuoco ended the day 11th and 12th, while Ralph Boschung took 15th behind recent Toro Rosso signing Sean Gelael.

Raoul Hyman, who completed his first day in a Formula 2 car with the Campos Racing squad, propped up the field in 20th, seven-tenths behind the Racing Engineering of Gustav Malja in 19th.
