Lynn joins DS Virgin as reserve and development driver

GP3 champion and GP2 race winner Alex Lynn has joined DS Virgin Racing as a reserve and development driver on a multi-year deal.

The 23-year-old joins the all-electric series after leaving GP2 after two seasons. He raced for DAMS in 2015 and 2016, finishing sixth in the Drivers’ Championship standings in both years.

Lynn also previously held a development driver role with Williams, taking part in Formula 1 testing sessions.

His decision to join the team comes just five months after he tested for Jaguar Racing during pre-season testing at Donington Park before Adam Carroll and Mitch Evans were confirmed as their two drivers for the 2016-17 season.

He described his pleasure in being able to choose to join the team that finished third in the Teams’ Standings in the 2015-16 season and currently sit in fourth after the first two rounds of the current campaign.

“DS Virgin Racing is the coolest team in the Formula E championship,” he said.

“They are passionate about racing and go all out to win. Their marketing is second-to-none and the DSV-02 car itself just looks great. As a driver, these elements really matter. Oh, and it helps that your cars win races pretty consistently too.”

The Brit said that moving into a position at a Formula E team was an aim for him because of the quality throughout the grid.

“Formula E is arguably the most competitive motor racing championship in the world, with the highest calibre of drivers. As a driver I want to be competing in the top series, which is why I’ve been trying so hard to get into Formula E, and DS Virgin was my first choice.”
