British team Carlin has announced they will be withdrawing from the GP2 Series to focus on other projects.
Carlin endured a difficult final year in the series, finishing a lowly 10th in the teams’ championship, ahead of just Arden International.
A lack of success in the last two seasons makes the decision for Carlin an easy one after fulfilling its contract with GP2.
“We’ve come to a point where we have fulfilled our contract with GP2 Series, a championship in which we have enjoyed great success including numerous podiums, race wins, and been championship contenders,” A source within Carlin told Autosport.
“The time has now come to move on to focus on other areas of our race programmes.”
Carlin’s other race programmes include European Formula 3, Euroformula Open, BRDC British F3, British Formula 4 as well as other US-based series.
The team’s best years came in 2012-2014 – finishing fourth in the drivers’ championship in 2012 and missing out on the teams’ championship to RUSSIAN TIME in the final round of 2013. Felipe Nasr went close in 2014 for the drivers’ title but lost out to DAMS’ Jolyon Palmer.
