Venturi drivers disappointed over Marrakesh troubles

Venturi’s Maro Engel and Stephane Sarrazin were left disappointed after a tough Marrakesh ePrix.

After both scored points in the opening round in Hong Kong, the two finished well outside the points in 12th and 19th respectively after car issues from both sides of their garages as Sarrazin suffered energy issues while Engel had electronics issue that saw him lose seven laps.

Engel was downcast with his problem after qualifying in 14th, one place ahead of his teammate, and believing he could score more points after moving closer to the top ten in the initial laps of the race.

“It’s difficult because you don’t control anything in that kind of situation,” he said. “I wanted to push, we were good in our strategy in regard to our position on the grid and everything collapsed. It’s a shame. We were on for top 10.”

Sarrazin agreed with his teammate’s line of thought after his own troubles that saw him move out of the points positions late on.

“It’s been a difficult race,” the Frenchman said. “I made a mistake during qualifying. I could have been in a better position on the grid. That’s for me. During the second part of the race we had troubles with energy and we have to look into that.”

Scoring one point from the opening two races is Sarrazin’s worst-ever start to a Formula E season after scoring two points in two races in season one and 14 in the first two in season two.

Sarrazin failed to finish in the points for the first time since the second 2015 London ePrix, ending a period of 504 days between this and the Moroccan race.
