Max Verstappen revelled in the difficult wet conditions to take his seventh podium of the season after storming through the field in the closing laps.
The Dutchman was running in the top three during the early stages and after numerous safety car periods and delays made the switch onto intermediate tyres.
However, the rain intensified and forced Verstappen to make an extra pit stop for full wets, leaving him out of the points.
Driving on the limit, the 19-year-old scythed through the pack to take the final podium spot, even managing to escape with a hairy moment when he lost his Red Bull on the pit-straight.
“It was an incredible race, there were red flags, difficult conditions, especially along the last straight, it was really, really slippery,” he said after the race.

“In the final restart I managed to overtake Nico, I was in a comfortable position over there then I had a massive moment.
“I clipped a bit the kerb, I had a massive moment, locked all four wheels, managed to keep it out of the guardrail, continued still in second.
“We decided to pit for intermediates but unfortunately it started to rain afterwards, it didn’t work out.
“After that, I think it was 15th, 14th, then [there were] some great overtakes afterwards; to come onto the podium was amazing.”
The result means Verstappen leapfrogs Kimi Raikkonen in the drivers’ championship into fifth place, just five points behind Sebastian Vettel.
