Nico Rosberg says that he is content with second place from the Brazilian Grand Prix given the tough wet weather conditions the drivers faced.
The grid had a hard 71-lap fight to keep their cars on track in a race disrupted by multiple safety car periods and two red flags.
Rosberg brought his Mercedes home in second behind teammate Lewis Hamilton, ensuring that he would have a 12-point lead going into the final race in Abu Dhabi, where a podium finish is all he needs to become world champion.
After the race, he praised his teammate for the victory: “It didn’t go my way today with the win, Lewis just did a great job,” Rosberg said.
“It was very difficult conditions out there. I can live with second today, for sure.”
It wasn’t quite so straightforward for either himself nor Max Verstappen after they had slight moments where they lost time and somehow kept position without damaging their cars.
The Dutchman had been ahead of Rosberg during the first half of the race after overtaking him superbly at Turn 3, stretching a gap to the German before his mistake, something which surprised Rosberg.
“I arrived on the straight and I saw him pointing 90 degrees towards the wall so I’m like, ‘What the hell?’.”
Rosberg brushed off his own moment, saying that everything was ‘fine’ and also gave his thoughts on the direction of the race, with the matter of the second red flag, and perhaps other decisions, being controversial.
The second red flag seemingly appeared out of nowhere as drivers were saying that the track conditions were okay.
“It was on the limit, but, in the end, yes, they got it right. They did a good job judging it, but it was quite a fine line out there.”
Rosberg continues to accumulate a career-best total of points in the championship, moving onto 367 points after 20 races.
