The Honda Racing Corporation have been crowned the 2016 MotoGP Constructors’ World Champions after Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez finished the season finale in Valencia in second place.
Honda came into the Grand Prix of Valencia 21 points clear of Yamaha in the standings and simply needed four more to wrap up the championship. Despite a poor start dropping him to fourth, Marquez kept his wits about him and managed to fight his way through to second with 10 laps to go.
It’s been a banner year for HRC. Not only did the factory team taken six victories between their two riders, for the first time since 2006 two of their satellite entrants also notched up wins.
Marc VDS’ Jack Miller took a sensational wet weather victory in Assen to end a 10-year wait for another non-factory winner. In the Czech Republic, Cal Crutchlow stormed to Britain’s first premier class win in 35 years and repeated the feat in Australia.
With six more podium finishes to add to their nine victories, as well as three other top 10 results, Honda ends their 50th year in the premier class on 369 points at the top of the constructors’ table. The efforts of Marquez and Dani Pedrosa this season also nets Repsol Honda second in the teams’ standings.
