Aldeguer Germany Absence Turns Gresini Sachsenring Plan Into One-Bike Test

Fermin Aldeguer will miss the German MotoGP without a stand-in after BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP confirmed it will field only one bike at Sachsenring.

The decision leaves Alex Marquez as the team’s sole representative for the 10-12 July round, a sharp operational reset before MotoGP reaches its summer break. MotoGP’s official report said Aldeguer was already ruled out of the event, with Gresini now deciding against naming a replacement rider.

Why Gresini’s call matters

Aldeguer’s latest absence follows the T7 vertebra fracture suffered in practice at Assen, where he was declared unfit after medical checks. AS reported that the Spaniard’s recovery has not moved quickly enough for him to receive clearance before Germany.

That makes this more than a simple rider availability story. Gresini loses half of its data stream on a weekend where Sachsenring’s layout places heavy demand on rhythm, left-side tyre management and rider confidence. It also removes the option of giving Ducati test mileage to a substitute, unlike the Thailand opener earlier this year, when Michele Pirro covered for Aldeguer during his femur recovery.

For Marquez, the brief becomes cleaner but heavier. His own fitness has been part of Gresini’s recent run of concern, yet Germany now turns into a one-rider benchmark for the team’s immediate form and its capacity to manage a bruising mid-season spell.
