Alonso furious with Vettel’s defending in Brazil

Fernando Alonso was furious with Sebastian Vettel’s defending in the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The Spaniard told Motorsport.com that “one day we’ll have to drive into him so he realises that the track belongs to everybody”.

Vettel passed Alonso on the inside of turn 11 in the middle of the race, but didn’t leave the McLaren driver any room on the outside as they exited the corner – perhaps because the German couldn’t see through the spray coming off of his own car in the wet conditions.

Alonso was forced to use the tarmac run-off area on the outside of the track, but the stewards did not deem the incident worthy of investigating – let alone penalising the Ferrari driver.

“There was an asphalt run-off and I used it and nothing happened. But if there’s a wall there, I either drive into the wall or into him, which is I will probably do next time.”

“I’ll crash into him and he will lose more points than me” added Alonso.

Despite the off, the 35-year-old did score a point for McLaren after passing Esteban Ocon’s Manor late in the race – but he was disappointed not to bring home more.

“I think we should aim for something better.”

“We started 10th, we finished 10th with some retirements in front of us.”

“I think we didn’t have enough pace and we need to improve more”.
