MotoGP: Valencian GP Preview

MotoGP: Valencian GP Preview

Well, what a season that was!

After 17 races of pure action, we’ve reached the final round of the season at Valencia. In years previously this race has offered tense championship dogfights, especially the 2013 Moto3 race. However, with all the championships for this season wrapped up, we’re treated to what is essentially a meaningless weekend.

For some riders, this won’t be the case. This weekend sees Jorge Lorenzo ride the Yamaha M1 for the final time before his highly publicised move to Ducati takes place. It also sees Andrea Iannone, Bradley Smith, Maverick Vinales and many others ride their respective bikes for the final time before moving on to to other teams.

Welcome, KTM

It may be a pointless race weekend, but all eyes are on one particular bike. That being the KTM machine of Mika Kallio. Kallio, a veteran of the GP paddock in the lower classes, will give the RC16 it’s race debut. It will be interesting to see how close the bike is to the rest of the field, giving us a small taste of it’s potential.

Winner number ten?

MotoGP.com has been regurgitating the fact that you can “Never say never” about a tenth winner this season. Many would say that surely it’s impossible, but who would’ve thought at Qatar that Jack Miller would be a GP winner eh?

The main contender is surely Aleix Espargaro, who is the only rider out of the main “factory” teams yet to win a race this season. Rain is expected for Sunday, meaning one of the multiple satellite Ducati’s could be in the mix for a win. If new winner number 10 was to happen, then it would be the ultimate finale to what has been a truly mad season!
