Marquez through as Rossi and Lorenzo have to go through Q1

Marquez through as Rossi and Lorenzo have to go through Q1

After FP2 was cancelled yesterday, the MotoGP FP3 session was extended to allow more time for the riders to prepare. It also again threw up more surprises, as Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo failed to make the cut for Q2.

Unsurprisingly, it was Marc Marquez who took first, with a correct tyre decision working out for the Spaniard. It was to be yet another surprise in P2, with Australian Jack Miller again showing pace around his home circuit. The two were only separated by 0.054 seconds.

Behind them was Aleix Espargaro, Pol Espargaro and Andrea Dovizioso, with all three riders making it through into Q2. Scott Redding ended up in sixth, whilst Stefan Bradl will make a rare appearance in Q2 after the German finished in seventh.

Nicky Hayden, deputising for Dani Pedrosa, made it through by finishing in eighth. The final two riders to make the cut were Danilo Petrucci and Hector Barbera.

This means that Rossi, Lorenzo and Maverick Vinales are all down in Q1. With only two spots available, we are in for a shock qualifying for one of these riders. Q1 gets underway at 5:10 BST.
