MotoGP & Moto2 FP2 cancelled due to poor weather

The second free practice sessions for the MotoGP and Moto2 World Championship at the Phillip Island Circuit have been cancelled due heavy rain saturating the 4.4km Australian track this afternoon.

The day has been plagued by bad weather, but the opening three sessions for all the classes ran to completion as well as the second Moto3 free practice at the start of the afternoon schedule.

However, the rain got even heavier towards the end of Moto3 FP2 and forced the start of MotoGP FP2 to be delayed by nearly 45 minutes. The session did run for 10 minutes, with only Hector Barbera, Mike Jones, Tito Rabat, Danilo Petrucci, Aleix Espargaro and Valentino Rossi taking to the track.

Conditions failed to improve and the session was red-flagged 13 minutes in. With the track soaked and time working against them, Race Direction had no choice but to cancel the day’s remaining track action.

A revised schedule is still to be announced.
