Crutchlow leads the pack after FP1 in Australia

Crutchlow leads the pack after FP1 in Australia

Cal Crutchlow has taken a slight lead after the first free practice session for the MotoGP class this weekend.

Phillip Island has yet again produced wet conditions, meaning that times from the early part of the session were really the only quick ones. This allowed Crutchlow to take first, with Valentino Rossi coming home in second.

Third was Danilo Petrucci, with the Italian continuing the good form he showed here at the test earlier this year. Fourth was the home-GP man Jack Miller, who put on a show for his home crowd. The Australian will be looking to continue to keep the pace with the leading pack.

Marc Marquez, Andrea Dovizioso and Maverick Vinales were fifth, sixth and seventh respectively. Pol Espargaro finished the wet session in eighth, whilst Alvaro Bautista finished in ninth.

Nicky Hayden, deputising for the injured Dani Pedrosa, rounded out the top ten, finishing in tenth. The 2006 World Champion, making his return to the team he famously won the championship with, will be pleased with his first session’s work.

MotoGP FP2 gets underway at 5:10 BST. You can follow all the action here on Read Motorsport.
