Leopard Racing sign Kent & Aegerter for 2017 Moto2 assault

The Leopard Racing team have confirmed that current rider Danny Kent will be joined by former Grand Prix winner Dominique Aegerter next season, with the squad also announcing a switch to Suter frames.

Former Moto2 Champions under the Kiefer Racing banner, Leopard stepped back up to the intermediate class this season after successfully winning the Riders’ World Championship with Kent in Moto3 last year.

However, the transition has been a tricky one. So far, Kent’s return to the Moto2 class has yielded a best result of sixth place at the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix, whilst Moto3 2015 runner-up Miguel Oliveira’s top result has been a solitary eighth at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Currently running Kalex chassis, the Leopard team will move to Suter frames next season as the Swiss firm make their return to the World Championship having scaled back their project to leasing out just one, two-year-old Suter frame to the folded JP Moto Malaysia team.

Replacing the Ajo Motorsport KTM-bound Oliveira is Dominique Aegerter. The Swiss rider won his only race to date on a Suter at the Sachsenring in 2014, and has found a switch to the Kalex chassis at the Interwetten team for this season a tough one. He’ll be keen to reignite his quest for Grand Prix success with Suter next season.

Eskil Suter, Owner of Suter Racing Technology said of the partnership: “Primarily we are looking forward to cooperate with such ambitious and well-structured partners as Leopard and Kiefer. We have common, high goals and are fortunate to equip with a very strong team with the new Suter MMX2. Concerning the return of Domi Aegerter in the Suter family, we are pleased of course. We know at what performance he could be capable.”
