Valencia to remain on MotoGP calendar through to 2021

The Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia has renewed its agreement with Dorna Sports and the MotoGP World Championship to remain on the calendar as the season finale through to the end of 2021.

The new five-year deal was agreed between Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta, Ximo Puig, President of the Generalitat and Councillor for Education, Research, Culture and Sport, Vicent Marza.

The track, situated in Cheste, has been a fixture on the Grand Prix schedule since it was constructed back in 1999, and has been the curtain closer on every season since 2002. Valencia is a hit with the fans, the raised viewing areas allowing spectators to see every section of the track.

The circuit has been the scene of some classic championship-deciding moments. In 2006, the packed hillsides witnessed Nicky Hayden secure his one and only world title after Valentino Rossi crashed on the opening lap. In 2013, the home fans saw their newest hero, Marc Marquez, make premier class history when he became MotoGP World Champion at the end of his debut season.

With 43 points separating Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi with five races to go in 2016, there is a chance that the Ricardo Tormo Circuit could celebrate its new five-year deal with another MotoGP title-deciding race on November 13.

Valenica is the latest of several long-standing tracks to secure multi-year deals to remain on the MotoGP calendar. Brno in the Czech Republic will continue to host Grand Prix racing through to 2021, as will the Sachsenring in Germany and the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in San Marino. Termas de Rio Hondo in Argentina penned a three-year extension whilst Phillip Island and Assen agreed 10-year deals to continue hosting the Australian and Dutch Grand Prix.
