Baz set to return to action in Aragon

Avintia Racing Team’s Loris Baz looks set to return to action at this weekend’s Aragon Grand Prix having missed the last race at Misano through injury.

The French rider was forced out of the last round in San Marino after suffering several fractures to his right foot in a huge crash at the start of the British Grand Prix just one week prior. This was the third race he has had to watch from the sidelines because of injury; Baz missed the Catalan and Ducth Grand Prix earlier in the year with a broken leg sustained in a crash at Mugello.

Since discovering the fractures, Baz has undergone an intensive rehab programme with Dr. Finn Mahlaer and his team in Switzerland in order to get back on his Ducati GP14.2 as soon as possible. Though still not fully fit, and his participation still subject to final approval from MotoGP doctors on Thursday, the Avintia rider is aiming to bag a few points this weekend and get used to riding his Desmosedici again ahead of the three flyaway races next month.

“I’m not at my maximum, and the foot is still painful, but I think that I will be able to ride my bike and the doctors and my physiotherapist have the same opinion. I’ll get the final check with the doctors at the track on Thursday and I’ll take to the track on Friday and I’ll see how I feel on the bike,” said Baz.

“Since I crashed, I’ve been working constantly with my physio, with a lot of work in the swimming pool to regain motion in my foot. I improve steadily, but we have to see how I feel riding the bike. I look forward to complete a positive weekend at Aragon and try to get some points if possible, but my goal will be to get some feeling with the bike and get into the overseas triple in the best possible shape.”
