Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne was quickest on the second day of testing at the second Formula E test at Donington Park for the brand new Techeetah team.
Vergne was top of the timesheets for the second day running with a 1m29.196s, which was nearly half a second quicker than his fastest time from yesterday’s test. However, it wasn’t a perfect day for the Frenchman who spun off the track in the morning session and required his new team to fit him a new rear wing.
Reigning champion Sebastien Buemi was quickest in the morning session but his 1m29.370s was beaten by fellow countrymen Vergne in the afternoon. Lucas di Grassi ended the day, third quickest, three-tenths off the pace but ahead of Nico Prost and his teammate Daniel Abt.
Once again, it was Robin Frijns who caused multiple red flags, his MS Amlin Andretti has endured terrible reliability throughout testing. His fastest time put him 14th, two places behind his teammate Antonio Felix da Costa. Frijns however, did set the most laps of anyone today with 32 laps under his belt by the end of the day.

Frenchman Stephane Sarrazin also endured a difficult day, he brought out the red flag in the afternoon session and ended the day at the bottom of the timesheets. His new Venturi teammate Maro Engel didn’t fare well either as he only managed 18th.
NEXTEV NIO showed good pace, Oliver Turvey and Nelson Piquet Jr managed 55 laps between them and were seventh and ninth respectively, early indications suggest they are in for a much better season than their disastrous second season in Formula E.
Also showing good pace were the Mahindra duo of Nick Heidfeld and Felix Rosenqvist who is still getting up to speed, they ended the day in sixth and tenth respectively, the Swede topped the timesheets early on but slipped back as the day progressed.
It seems Renault’s new powertrain is once again the benchmark as three of the top four quickest drivers in today’s test were powered by the brand new Renault Z.E 16.
Meanwhile away from the track in the UK, Channel 5 announced that they have claimed the rights to air the third season of Formula E which begins in October in Hong Kong. ITV previously held the rights to air the series but low ratings forced the broadcaster to drop Formula E after just two seasons.
