Vergne tops Formula E test for Techeetah at Donington Park

Jean-Eric Vergne topped todays Formula E testing session, nearly breaking the lap record he set at Donington Park two weeks ago.

The Frenchman originally broke Formula E’s lap record at Donington Park on Aug. 24 with a 1:29.634, just 0.006 seconds faster than the 1:29.640 lap time he set this afternoon.

The morning session saw a damp track and times improving thanks to improving conditions. Vergne finished second with a 1:34.879, however it was Jose Maria Lopez who set the fastest lap during the hour that started the final three days of testing.

Two other drivers were able to get under 1:30 during testing today. Sam Bird and Nico Prost, who drive for DS Virgin Racing and Renault e.dams respectively, both were able to set competitive times in their attempt to get ready for the start of season three.

Defending Drivers’ Champion Sebastien Buemi finished the day in fifth, nearly two tenths slower than his teammate Prost. Jerome D’Ambrosio split the two in his Faraday Future Dragon Racing machine with a 1:30.013.

Sixth to tenth were made up of five different teams. Daniel Abt finished sixth for Abt Schaeffler and Adam Carroll for Jaguar Racing was behind him in seventh. After finishing top of the morning session Lopez found himself in eighth, Nick Heidfeld was happy with his Mahindra car to finish ninth, while Vergne’s teammate Ma Qing Hua completed the top ten.

Venturi, Andretti and NEXTEV were the only three teams of the ten in testing that didn’t have a driver on the top ten, their fastest times being good enough for 12th, 13th and 16th respectively.
