Iannone takes control as Marquez crashes out of FP3

Andrea Iannone took first position in FP3 for the MotoGP class, but the focus of the session would be Honda’s Marc Marquez.

Iannone would continue to dominate the timesheets along with teammate Andrea Dovizioso. They were followed by Maverick Vinales, who is having a stellar weekend, and Jorge Lorenzo.

However, the focus would turn to Marquez, who, after improving his time, fell at turn three. Marquez had to turn quickly to avoid his teammate Pedrosa, leading to a hard impact just outside the runoff area. He was then forced to sit in his pit box as the times tumbled. He would eventually just finish within the cut off point in tenth.

Scott Redding led a late charge into the top ten, eventually ending up fifth, finishing just ahead of Valentino Rossi. Aleix Espargaro ended up seventh, with Hector Barbera continuing the Ducati dominance with a great eighth place. Pedrosa and Marquez were ninth and tenth.

This will see the biggest casualties of FP3 being Danilo Petrucci and Cal Crutchlow, who will now have to fight it out in Q1 in the hope they can make it through to Q2 and a top 12 grid slot.

MotoGP FP4 gets underway at 12:30 BST.
