Dovizioso continues Ducati domination in Austria

Andrea Dovizioso continued Ducati’s domination of the Red Bull Ring by taking first position in the second free practice session.

Dovizioso and teammate Iannone constantly swapped times throughout the session. The power and straight line speed of the Ducati have enabled the pair to be quick throughout the two-morning sessions in Austria.

Dovizioso’s fastest time was a 1m23.617s, which would leave him a solid 0.2 seconds ahead of teammate Iannone. The closest rider to the Ducati factory pairing was the Suzuki of Maverick Vinales. Vinales led the morning FP1 session but was unable to produce the same result in FP2.

Valentino Rossi was fourth, whilst Cal Crutchlow was fifth. Crutchlow is sporting a special helmet design this weekend to celebrate the birth of his Daughter Willow last week.

Danilo Petrucci and Hector Barbera were seventh and eighth, lying just ahead of Jorge Lorenzo, who recovered after struggling early on in FP1.

Ducati Test Rider Michelle Pirro was ninth, whilst Marc Marquez struggled down in tenth place.

Dani Pedrosa and Aleix Espargaro have it all to do in FP3 tomorrow if they want to get into Q2. Pedrosa struggled throughout the session, whilst Espargaro crashed and wrecked his Suzuki early on in the session.

MotoGP FP3 gets underway at 8:55 BST tomorrow.
