Formula E Season Review: Renault e.dams

Formula E Season Review: Renault e.dams

After Sebastien Buemi missed out on the drivers’ title at the final race in season one to Nelson Piquet Jr, Renault e.Dams returned in season two with hopes to set the record straight.

Buemi and Nicholas Prost were retained for season two after helping the French outfit win the teams’ title in the inaugural season.

From pre-season testing, it was clear that the Spark-Renault Z.E.15 was the best powertrain on the Formula E grid.

Buemi dominated the season opener in Beijing from pole position. A second win in Punta del Este followed by two second places pushed Buemi towards the top of the standings. On the other hand, Prost started the season very poorly, failing to finish on the podium in each of the opening four rounds.

Long Beach was a disaster with both cars finishing outside the top 10, however, Buemi returned to form in Berlin, taking the win.

The title fight between Buemi and di Grassi went to the final race, eventually being decided on who scored the fastest lap, eventually going to Buemi after the Brazilian punted Buemi off at Turn 1 in race two. Prost ended the year with two dominant wins in London to ensure e.Dams won the teams’ championship for a second consecutive season.

Buemi ultimately achieved his goal of being Formula E champion. The title fight was concluded in dramatic circumstances after di Grassi hit Buemi off at Turn 1. The duo battled it out for the fastest lap with the Swiss driver coming out on top.

Renault e.Dams had the strongest package thus Buemi made life difficult for himself, often making mistakes in qualifying despite having the outright speed.

Third place for Prost is probably the most he expected coming into the season. A slow start meant he was out of contention for the drivers’ title early on. A strong end to the season with two wins puts him in good stead ahead of season three – where he remains with e.Dams.
