Pirelli confirms tyre choices for final races of 2016

Pirelli have confirmed the nominated compounds for the final two races of the 2016 Formula One season which take place in Brazil and Abu Dhabi.

The Italian company will take the soft, medium and hard tyres to the Autódromo José Carlos Pace in Brazil. Interlagos’ abrasive surface means Pirelli have chosen their hardest allocation of tyres.

Teams will keep a set of the medium and hard tyres for the race, however, will use a set of soft tyres in the final part of qualifying.

For the season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, ultrasoft, supersoft and soft tyres will be used – the softest allocation of tyres Pirelli can bring to one single event. This will be the fifth time this tyre combination has been used.

Teams will keep a set of the soft and supersoft tyres for the race, however, will use the ultrasoft tyre in Q3.

The smooth surface in Abu Dhabi means tyre degradation is very low and less energy is put through the tyres due to the lack of high-speed corners.
