Massa reflects on ‘terrible’ Hungarian GP

Felipe Massa has described his weekend at the Hungaroring as ‘terrible’ as he came home a lowly 18th.

The Brazilian was lapped twice on his way to 18th place.

Massa crashed in qualifying which severely damaged the front end of his Williams FW38. On the way to the grid, prior to Sunday’s race, Massa encountered steering problems meaning the team had to make a last-minute change to his steering rack.

The change was completed on time but Massa believes the issue wasn’t cured.

“It was a terrible race, which started on the way to the grid with the problem with my steering wheel rack being too light on one side and too heavy on the other,” Massa explained.

“We tried to fix the problem and we couldn’t, but at least we improved it because the initial lap was impossible.

“To do the whole race with the steering wheel heavy on one side and light on the other was really difficult. I tried to race until the end but this wasn’t the result we were aiming for.”

Despite being in F1 since 2002, Massa has not finished on the podium in Hungary and may not get another chance to as his contract with Williams ends at the end of the season and is likely to be replaced by Jenson Button for 2017.
