Nakagami takes Moto2 pole in Germany

Takaaki Nakagami continued to carry the momentum from his debut win at Assen two weeks ago by taking pole position for tomorrow’s German Moto2 race at the Sachsenring.

Nakagami took pole with his final lap, which was enough to overtake Johann Zarco and start tomorrow from the front of the grid. Zarco had to settle for second on what is his birthday.

Championship contender Alex Rins will start third tomorrow, closely followed by Simone Corsi, Franco Morbidelli and Sandro Cortese who will be starting behind him on the second row. Lorenzo Baldasarri ended qualifying in seventh, with Alex Marquez and Marcel Schrotter not far behind him.

It would turn out to be a disappointing session for Britain’s Sam Lowes, who ended the day in tenth. Lowes suffered from grip issues throughout the session and crashed early on but was able to remount.

Qualifying also saw the news that Danny Kent will sit out the rest of the weekend due to the 2015 Moto3 world champion suffering from a broken rib that he picked up in a karting accident recently.

The Moto2 race gets underway at 11:20 BST tomorrow
