Johann Zarco finally confirmed the rumours today when he announced that he will be joining Herve Poncharal’s Tech 3 Yamaha team for the 2017 MotoGP season.
Zarco will partner fellow Moto2 rider Jonas Folger, who announced he would be joining the team earlier in the season at Le Mans.
The Frenchman will, therefore, join the French team after the end of this season in which he hopes to become the first double Moto2 world champion. Many had questioned why he did not attempt to go for a ride last season, but waiting has seen Zarco take one of the top rides in the class.
Zarco and Folger will replace the outgoing Bradley Smith and Pol Espargaro, who will both be joining the new KTM team who will join the class from next season.
This move means that the 2017 grid is all but complete, with the only seats available being at the Ducati satellite teams of Avinita, Pramac and Aspar.
