Welsh Government require more work on Circuit of Wales plan

The Welsh Government have announced that “Further work is needed” before they are willing to underwrite the plans for the new Circuit of Wales.

Economy Secretary Ken Skates told the Welsh Parliament that at a time of “significant economic uncertainty” ,due to the United Kingdom voting to leave the European Union, they would be unable to accept the plans in their current form.

He added that the risk to the taxpayer in it’s current form was “unacceptable”. Mr Skates wants to see 50% of the finance and 50% of the underwriting to come from the private sector.

This is the latest in a number of setbacks for the Welsh circuit, who had hoped to be hosting this year’s British MotoGP round before being forced to lease the race to Silverstone due to the fact no building work has even started yet. The nearest realistic time would probably be the 2018 British MotoGP round.
