Buemi slams ‘disrespectful’ Di Grassi

FIA Formula E Champion Sebastien Buemi slammed his rival Lucas di Grassi after the race, calling him disrespectful and a liar.

The two drivers went into the final race of the season at Battersea Park level on points. With Buemi on pole and Di Grassi in third we were expecting a battle, but nothing like what happened.

Going into Turn 3 on the first lap Di Grassi hit the rear end of the Swiss driver, taking them both out of contention for the points scoring positions.

“Honestly, I have zero respect for this guy, so now we’ll see what the race direction says,” Buemi said to Motorsport.com after the race. “But I’m very happy with what I’ve done, because I’ve done the right thing.

“What he said is actually disrespectful because first of all he is lying and second of all he made a huge mistake and he is trying to blame someone else.”

Di Grassi was given a drive-through penalty which was converted to 50 seconds added to his overall time, although it didn’t make a difference to the Brazilian’s finishing position. Di Grassi put the blame on Buemi braking for the corner too early.

The Renault e.dams driver ended up winning the Drivers’ Championship after getting the fastest lap of the race, and the two points that came with it. Even during his quick lap attempts Di Grassi tried to stop him however.

“He went out, he did the fastest lap and then he was waiting for me each time I was trying to do a fastest lap.

“I used 60 percent of my battery before in the end I managed to do a lap. I could not believe that.”

Both drivers were also very close to winning the inaugural Drivers’ Championship last year during the London ePrix, but they were beaten by Nelson Piquet Jr. under better circumstances.
