Valtteri Bottas has revealed he intends to be far more hands-on with negotiations involving his future within Formula One and beyond from now on.
There had been rumours Bottas was looking to change his management before entering into negotiations with Williams over a new contract, but the Finn has insisted Didier Coton will remain as his manager.
“There’s no change to my management, everything is still as is,” Bottas told Autosport.
“I’m just going to be taking care of a little bit more of some things.
“There’s no drama, but there are some things on which I’m keen to be a bit more involved.”
Bottas was then asked if the change of approach would mean he would be more involved in the negotiations with Williams over extending his contract, to which he replied: “Maybe, yeah, a little bit more.
“It’s not a massive change, I saw the recent rumour [about a management change], and people should not over-react. It’s just a small change.”
Bottas admitted there has been no commitment from either himself or Williams beyond the current season but he is hopeful the negotiations can be concluded sooner rather than later, with many expecting Bottas to remain at Williams for at least one more season after several teams confirmed they would not be changing drivers.
“If it carries until later in the year it doesn’t help anything,” he added.
“It would be nice to know as soon as possible, but sometimes it’s not possible.”
