Lewis Hamilton brought Nico Rosberg’s championship lead down to just nine points after victory in the Canadian Grand Prix, the fifth for the British driver.
Behind him, Sebastian Vettel looked like he could make a strong challenge for the win, but the Mercedes were just too quick for the German and he had to settle for second.
Valtteri Bottas took Williams’ first podium of the season, finishing third after using his strategy well starting from seventh.
Max Verstappen had a strong drive to finish in fourth and, once again, showed his racing instincts as he managed to hold off a charging Rosberg. The second Mercedes finishing fifth behind the Dutchman, with his Canadian Grand Prix turning into a recovery drive from the first corner.
Kimi Raikkonen led Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg across the line for sixth, seventh and eighth. Carlos Sainz Jr had to fight back up the grid after receiving a five-place grid drop for changing his gearbox after his qualifying crash and finished an impressive ninth, with Sergio Perez rounding off the top ten.
