Rene Rast will be replacing Antonio Felix da Costa at the Berlin ePrix for Team Aguri, as the Portuguese driver is racing in DTM.
The German is mainly known for his performances in the Porsche Supercup, where he won the championship in three successive years starting in 2010, finishing in second in 2009.
While he has also won races in the FIA GT Series, which is now the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup, he has made appearances in the World Endurance Championship in the LMP1 and LMP2 categories.
“Driving a Formula E car on the streets of Berlin will be something very special and I’d like to thank the team for this great opportunity,” Rast says in the Team Aguri press release. “I have been in the simulator for the last few days to get a good feel for the car.
“While these cars have their own unique demands, I am confident that I can get up to speed quickly and use my experience in energy management to deliver a strong result for the team.”
Da Costa, who Rast is replacing for the German ePrix, will be at the Red Bull Ring in Switzerland driving in the second round of DTM. During the first round at Hockenheim he finished seventh during the first race, but had to retire in the second.
